Serene Ng Wei-En / Master of Art

The Serenity Florilegium
2014
Graphite and thread on paper
Dimensions variable

Coming from the bijou island city of Singapore, where her country is commonly conceived both as a culturally constructed ‘garden’ as well as a man-made, cultivated ‘garden city’, the notion of the garden intrigues Serene Ng Wei-En . Drawing on her thoughts and imagination toward the relationships between the garden city and its occupants, this project alludes to the reification of a gardener’s imagination projected unto the materialisation of their garden. Taking on the role of a gardener, this translation begins here; graphite and thread are a means of reifying into the real world fragments of the imagined florilegium from Serene’s mind.
