In a pursuit to understand the language of abstraction and the property of ambiguity within contemporary photographic practice, Kieran Butler is interested in the materiality of 'things'. What these ‘things’ are exactly is unclear. Approaching photography as something more like a proposition or a drawing, a way of reaching an inner illumination, Kieran uses photography to examine the materiality of ‘things’, what photography is and what it could be.
Kieran works across the disciplines of photography, moving image, object and installation to re-imagine what the materiality of things are and what they could be.
