Provisions
2014
Mortar, steel, hunter valley fly ash, boral cement.
250cm x 300cm

Provisions responds to the coal extraction and export apparatus in the hunter valley region both through the materials used on site and the histories and metaphors that this type of business connotes.
By looking at the pits and the ports, the rails and roads that connect them, the tenuous nature of our civilisation becomes visible; in it’s veins and arteries. Investigations of scaffoldings have developed into models that are also emblematic of the psychological structures of industrial economies. The work Provisions is part of a larger interrogation of modes of interacting with place and the transformative possibilities embedded within oppressive frameworks.
