Karam Hussein’s practice involves creating interactive mechanical sculptures or works which allude to a sense of interactivity. He tends to focus on using only a few types of materials to form his works, which are most commonly felt and steel, with the recent introduction of timber. The interactive sculptures primarily take the form of machines with gears, cogs, shafts, axels and wheels. Karam’s work relies on a certain amount of audience participation to rotate the handle which in turn moves the operational parts of the work.
