Street Façades explores boundaries caused by house-fronts in a suburban context. The façade of houses creates a spatial boundary between the street and the private domestic setting inside a home. They replicate the role of fences, preventing intruders from accessing objects and land, and create a visual frontier. When one walks down a suburban street they are repeatedly faced with these frontiers. The observer faces a blank slate of mortar and concrete. Yvette’s project aims to explore this notion through a series of works, and is inspired by the work of Ed Ruscha and Howard Arkley.
