Josep Santamaria’s work contextualizes the landscape and the portrait as a space to reproduce personal feelings and expressions departing from his cultural experience in Australia. The aim of Josep’s work is to investigate the conceptual possibilities generated by the distortion of the landscape and the portrait, attempting to recreate new dimensions and spaces disregarding any logical connection with the reality. Imagination, experimentation and subjectivity are the main influences on his creative process. In addition, the concepts represented in Josep’s body of work are embodied by realistic figures and abstract forms, seeking to recreate a surrealistic atmosphere of freedom, irrationality and fear.
