Terrence Combos’ work engages with the conflation of abstraction and text through the logic of the grid. The rigid parameters of the grid, whether structurally sound or mathematically flawed, are adhered to as a means of producing systematically formed geometric patterns. The purity of these ordered patterns is ruptured through their integration with randomly formed text not designed to communicate instrumentally.
