Matt Kernaghan is a sufferer of depression and anhedonia is one of the main symptoms. Anhedonia is the inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable. Matt’s work conveys the emptiness and isolation he feels, and the disconnectedness he feels from nature. Matt deliberately sets up the images lower than eye-level height to fit his concept. The purpose of using colour in the middle image is to divert attention towards the other images.
