Like many people, Rachael Tse is drawn in and intrigued by the cuteness found on Asian food packaging, rather than the actual product itself, particularly those originating from Japan. These paintings are based on various visual elements found on various packaging in an attempt to capture the ‘cuteness’ that is depicted and marketed. These products serve as a reflection of a society yet placed within a foreign context they seem otherworldly. In parallel, this series demonstrates her own method of observing the world whereby through the ritualistic nature of repetition, the process in creating can somewhat outweigh the product itself.
