Joseph Florio's work utilises electronic and mechanical elements to create abstract reflections on objects, language, and the rhythms of daily life. Untitled (Motors) uses blinds to create an interplay of negative and positive space, an ever shifting network of obscuring and revealing barriers that serves as a reflection on desire and voyeurism. Untitled (Solenoids) is a multi-layered abstraction of language, translating a written text systematically into binary language, electronic impulses, mechanical action and kinetic effect. The result is a combination of complexity and simplicity that reflects the very workings of language and communication in our modern society.
