It is naïve to believe that chronic illness solely affects the individual in the physical form. It does but goes far beyond this, as the illness begins to intrude upon ones sense of self. The ongoing strain and persistent presence of chronic illness can begin to affect the way we function internally, affecting the identity and self-belief of that individual. The danger is that illness has the power and ability to control and rule over our state of being, but perhaps, if we are to take the illness and glorify it, we may too have the power to overcome it.
