This project is a discussion of the value of identity in contemporary culture. The importance of connection, self-disclosure and anonymity are at the forefront of Lisa McCleary’s work. She is interested in the spectrum of painting and challenging the idea of virtual, real and constructed identities. The idea for this work stems from the new technologies that have moulded and framed the way in which contemporary society connects with each other. Lisa has focused her practice on the dating application Tinder, which encourages users to connect through a process of constructing a contrived and ‘best’ self.
