Gail Reingold / Master of Art

Screen Leopard, Bitmap Boy
2014, 2014
Acrylic

Gail Reingold’s experience as a mother of two teenagers growing up with the constant presence of an electronic screen, informs this body of work.
These paintings try to capture the contemporary anxiety parents suffer daily around how much time their children spend in front of a screen.
Using one light source with the technique of chiarascurro, the viewers’ attention focusses on the subject. This casts an atmospheric light on their surroundings: Toys and books discarded in pursuit of life beyond the safety of home.
They appear safe indoors, but are they? Who are they connecting with? What footprints do they leave?
