Jodi Clark’s work encourages the viewer to consider stereotypes and the overt
consumption of women’s bodies and sexualities through images that challenge and render absurd the commodification and repression of women.
Using the device of the ‘Exquisite Corpse’ Jodi has created a suite of grotesquely
drawn portraits that hybridise the human figure and animals, to evoke and
interrogate pornography, and create absurd and perhaps disturbing images and
thematic combinations. She uses the viewer’s familiarity with an image to engage
them, encourage closer scrutiny, and then challenge their assumptions with
discomfort, uncanniness, or the strange fascination of the unfamiliar.
