Often affiliated with the prospect of magic, the term ‘trance’ has been referred to in psychology as an altered state of consciousness. It is understood as a half-conscious state, one of bewilderment and absorption that adheres dissociative qualities which alter one’s sense of time and perceptual experience. Playing with the dissociative notions surrounding the concept of trance, Alanah McKellar invites the viewer to submerge themselves within the sensory movements of Get Lost | Find Yourself. McKellar reflects on how the uses of digital technologies have influenced a contemporary understanding of trance by playing with the introspective qualities of digital mediums.
