Abdullah Fawad / Master of Art

Huroof e Muqatta'at (Spiritual Codes)
2014
Acrylic, collage on galvanised iron
123.5cm x 108cm

Abdullah Fawad thinks of his artworks as fragments based on the clues from his religion towards the mysteries, codes of death, the unseen, hidden, spiritual and divine world or the world hereafter. Through exploration of ancient Islamic Square Kufic script Abdullah’s work focuses on the mystical alphabets which appear in the beginning of 29 chapters out of 114 of the Holy Quran. Their meanings remain unclear and most Muslims consider them to be divine secrets. In the Arabic language these letters are written together like a word, but each letter is pronounced separately.
