Jingchao Yang / Master of Art

The Small Predella
2014
Oil on wood
40cm x 60cm

Inspired by Byzantine Christian painting, Jingchao Yang’s artwork is an oil painting on wood, with gold and venetian red as the main colours. The cutting of the wood is a renaissance frame, in the shape of a predella of the mediaeval age. This artwork aims to reveal the artist’s faith in Jesus Christ, who defines Jingchao’s identity. From the outside, Christianity is marked by the shameful death of the man Jesus and this is painted on the two outside-doors. As the doors open, reality is revealed, which is the resurrection and life eternal, only accessible through the death of Jesus.
