Consider a cake, ephemeral and unacceptable, with its burnt edge, cracks and air bubbles. It must be covered! Icing sugar. A sweet layer, seductive yet destructive to the body. It is a veil, like skin, concealing the inner being, the grotesque, the imperfect human body with its imperfect will and desire. There is only so much we can ‘fix’. Cracked and chafed lips, the flow of mucus, the growth of bumps and lumps. The truth of ourselves always leaks out. Is always revealed. Is always bitter.
