Claire Johnson’s work is primarily based around the presence of the 'artists hand', their mark, their impressions, a trace of their individuality. Good People (a collection) pays homage to the art of the bust, but more importantly the fluidity of expressionism. Each ceramic piece was created without a determined end. Claire has allowed her body to connect with the medium, this raw clay whose soft surfaces left each of her imprints, a true testament that she is the artist. Good People is also an attempt to explore the relationship between what is painterly and what is sculptural and to blur lines of rigidity and unpredictability.
