Ellen Borda / Bachelor of Fine Arts

Bungled Landscape, series I
2014
Ceramics
Dimensions variable

Ellen Borda’s ceramic interpretation of the Bungle Bungle Range, viewed from an aerial perspective creates a confluence of vessels.
The artist is a white middle-aged Australian with no spiritual connection to the land and she respects the traditional owners of this country. However, Ellen has been exposed to our ‘sunburnt country’ through images and literature and she found a resonance with the vibrant colours and contours of this landscape.
Series I : The negative spaces between the hills are explored; irregular vessels are thus created, highlighting shadows and crevices.
Series II: The hills are represented as inverted traditional vessels.
