The idea behind this project revolves around the dichotomy of the familiarity/unfamiliarity from false memories that Karina Tenggara commonly experience with dreams. In the process of recreating these ephemeral environments Karina also draws influence from her experiences with aural-visual synaesthesia, focusing with particular attention on the colours and shapes that she sees due to this phenomenon. The two experiences are similar in the sense that they are temporary environments existing only within the mind’s eye. These paintings recreate a highly saturated landscape that is a representation of the artist’s subconscious, combining and processing the two similar conscious/unconscious experiences together.
