Textiles

Hakka: culture, tradition, family.
Utilising textiles to hold cultural memory, Hakka is a personal exploration and preservation of traditional Taiwanese Hakka motifs and techniques to create contemporary garments.
The transitory nature of flowers parallels the catastrophe, breakdown and loss of culture and tradition. Dried decaying flowers are sewn onto fabric with hand-stitched embroidery layered over the top. These layers represent the notion of reinscribing a new meaning and preserving cultural memories within textile garments.
Hakka is the integration of family and technique, to hold and preserve cultural memory.
