Dinky Di Gum Nut
2014
Canvas and silk- dyed with eucalyptus leaves.
300cm diameter. 300-350cm high when suspended

The Dinky di gum nut is aimed to inspire youth too absorbed in their excess possessions to get outdoors and enjoy the natural surroundings and genuine company of others.
Inspired by stories told by swagmen about their lives, Samantha Morton has drawn on the romanticised image of the swagman, living a carefree life in the beautiful Australian bush, enjoying the small things. The aim of this work is to generate this idea of living with little back into today’s society, to open people’s eyes to how we have become buried in our excess luxuries.
